InnoCaption is owned and led by two Co-CEOs whose partnership and collaboration led to the launch of the first mobile-focused captioned phone service. We are a passionate, purpose-driven team on a mission to provide an empowering accessibility solution for the deaf and hard of hearing community.
We focused solely on smartphone technology when our industry mainly offered landline phone solutions. We utilize live stenographers (CART) to provide faster and more accurate captioning despite the higher cost it entails. We are the only captioned phone service provider to offer users the choice between automated speech recognition technology or live CART on every call. All because we care about our users and put their needs first.

It was over a decade ago that our small team of engineers first began working on new technology that could enable faster and lower latency data communications over cellular networks. At the time, we never imagined the impact that this work would eventually have on the lives of hard of hearing individuals around the country. After years of research and development, we were able to combine our unique technology platform with the skills of highly trained stenographers to create a live mobile captioning service unlike any other. The experience of bringing the InnoCaption app to life has been a tremendous journey and I am very thankful for the opportunity to devote my time and effort into making a real difference in the daily lives of our users.
I got my first hearing aid at the age of 4 and my first cochlear implant in 2008. I first discovered InnoCaption at a conference when it was still under development. As soon as I tested the technology, I was blown away and knew it had the potential to completely change my life and the lives of many other individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. This led me to get involved directly with this budding startup, to help launch the InnoCaption app and share this amazing technology with the world. By using the InnoCaption app every day, I feel empowered and finally on the same footing with my hearing peers in any work that I do. I hope that our app can make this kind of positive impact in the lives of each of our users.
Paul leads day-to-day operations and strategy. Paul spent the first 12 years of his career in the finance and investment industry, working across New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong and London. Throughout that time, Paul acted as a financial advisor to an exciting accessibility startup founded by his father. Eventually, drawn to this startup’s incredible mission and impressive technological development, Paul joined InnoCaption in 2020 to help grow the team and achieve the vision that Joseph and Joe had laid out for the company.
Jay leads our engineering and technology development efforts. When Jay first learned about Joseph Lee’s vision for a new mobile call captioning solution, he knew this was a mission that he wanted to be a part of. Jay lost hearing in one ear during his childhood and always feared that one day he may lose access to telecommunications without a technology like InnoCaption. Jay was one of the founding members of the team and led the development of the backend systems and infrastructure that power the InnoCaption service today.
Cristina acts as in-house counsel and leads our advocacy efforts with the FCC. Growing up as the daughter of two individuals with profound hearing loss, Cristina witnessed firsthand the everyday challenges and communication barriers faced by the hard of hearing community. This unique personal perspective has fueled her passion for advocacy and accessibility, and ultimately led to her joining InnoCaption. Beyond her work at InnoCaption, Cristina is an active board member of the Hearing Loss Association of America California State Association.
Matt leads our direct marketing and outreach efforts. Matt joined InnoCaption in 2016 and since then has traveled all around the country, raising awareness of our service by attending conferences and presenting to local hearing loss association groups. Matt also regularly hosts and attends virtual webinars to speak about our service with various resource providers and healthcare professionals. Matt is passionate about our mission and loves the frequent opportunities he has to meet with our users in-person, where he can answer their questions and see the difference we are able to make in their lives.
